This custom comes from our Latino culture and celebrates a young girl’s adolescence. This is NOT a sacrament of the Church, but has deep religious roots.
Celebration options:
Simple Ceremony:
Opening Prayers
Scripture and Homily
Prayer of Thanksgiving and blessings
Dismissal
Eucharistic Ceremony (only if family has proven mass attendance)
As a Sunday Mass, with communion distributed
Requirements:
Household are registered and active within the parish; Households outside of the parish will be not be accepted
The daughter has been baptized, made their first communion, and has been or in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation
Proof needs to be provided before a date is set
Daughter and family attends preparation classes
Ideally daughter active within youth ministry
$500 parish use fee paid; $100 stipend for the priest (paid to the parish)
