Barbara Verdi
Director of Adult Faith Formation
With over 40 years of experience working in the Diocese of Reno, I come to this ministry of Adult Faith Formation with purpose and hope.
In 1963, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, I came to Reno from Connecticut to work as a teacher for the Washoe County School District. But God had other plans for me. In the mid-seventies, after 3 years of teaching and the birth of my 2 children, I was appointed to serve as the director of Religious Education at Holy Cross Church.
While still serving in that capacity, I was named Associate Director of the Diocesan Office of Religious Education under the direction of Bishop Norman McFarland. Three years later, I was named Director of that office.
During the next 13 years, under the leadership of Bishop MacFarland, Bishop Daniel Walsh, and Bishop Straling, I was instrumental in creating the annual Diocesan Conference; the Genesis Program, a Lay Ministry Formation program; named Co-director of RENEW, and Director of Adult Faith Formation. In 1997, I was appointed Pastoral Associate of St. Albert the Great parish, serving in that capacity until June, 2005, when I retired.
